FORTUNE CUP

Fortune Cup 2026 — Rules for the Competition

Effective: May 25, 2026

Fortune Cup 2026 has only a few rules to follow:

Entry fee and Phase 1 (group matches) deadline

Make sure you FILL IN and SAVE your predictions for all Phase 1 games of the World Cup before the first game kicks off on June 11th at 3:00pm EST together with $50 in cash, Venmo (@Elizabeth-Smith-215) or Zelle (954-815-1100) to Elizabeth Smith (1300 Brickell, 2nd Floor) which is the entry fee for this year's Fortune Cup. Please make sure you save your predictions and submit the payment before this deadline, as the prediction sheet will lock after the first game begins, and you will not be able to fill out any new predictions after this time. Also, the submission will not be considered complete without the entry fee for each participant.

Champion and Golden Boot predictions

Don't forget to also make your bonus predictions by June 11th, 2026 before 3pm EST, for 2026 World Cup Champion (the team that wins the World Cup) and Golden Boot Winner (the player that scores the most goals in the tournament and earns the Golden Boot award by FIFA). These predictions can give you some valuable bonus points at the end of the tournament!

Phase 1 (group matches) scoring

For each of the games during Phase 1 (Group Matches), you will be awarded 2 points for correctly predicting the winner (or a tie) of each game, + 2 bonus points (for a total of 4 points) for correctly predicting the exact score of each game. Remember that in Phase 1 games can end in ties since there are no penalty shootouts in this phase.

Phase 2 (elimination matches) and deadlines

With respect to Phase 2 (Elimination Matches), you will be able to start filling in your predictions as soon as the individual matchups are known, and the deadline for saving your predictions will be by the first game of each particular round (Round of 32, Round of 16, Quarterfinals, etc.). Don't worry, we will send reminder emails on the day you can start predicting each round as well as on the deadline day for that round.

Deadlines for Predictions in Phase 2 Rounds:

Deadlines for Predictions in Phase 2 Rounds
RoundDeadline
Round of 32June 28th at 3pm EST
Round of 16July 4th at 1pm EST
QuarterfinalsJuly 9th at 4pm EST
SemifinalsJuly 14th at 3pm EST
3rd Place MatchJuly 18th at 5pm EST

Please note that we will need quick reaction from all participants in these later stages of the tournament. With each reminder email, we will state the deadline date and time for your predictions. If you are not able to save your predictions in time, you will not be able to accumulate any points for those particular games.

Phase 2 (elimination matches) scoring

For each knockout match you make two predictions: the exact score and the team that advances. Exact score is judged on the result after extra time (120 minutes), before any penalty shootout — a knockout match can end level on this score (0-0, 1-1, 2-2, and so on), which is a valid prediction. The advancing team is the team you predict will go through to the next round; when a match is level after extra time and decided by a penalty shootout, the advancing team is the shootout winner, and you choose the advancing team yourself as part of your pick. Points are awarded independently for each part. Round of 32, Round of 16, and Quarterfinals: 3 points for correctly predicting the advancing team + 3 points for the exact score (6 maximum). Semifinals, Final, and 3rd Place Match: 4 points for correctly predicting the advancing team + 4 points for the exact score (8 maximum). You can earn the score points and the advancing points separately — for example, predicting 1-1 with Brazil to advance earns the exact-score points if the match finishes 1-1 after extra time, and the advancing points if Brazil wins the shootout. If you predict a decisive score, the advancing team is automatically that team; you only choose the advancing team yourself when you predict a level score.

Tournament bonus points

Finally, we will award 10 bonus points to each person that correctly predicts the 2026 World Cup Team Champion and 15 bonus points to each person that correctly predicts the Golden Boot Winner.

Winner and tiebreaker

The winner of the Fortune Cup 2026 will be the participant with the highest number of points accumulated throughout the tournament, including bonus points. In the case of a tie in total points at the end of the tournament (including bonus points), the tiebreaker will be awarded to the participant that predicted the greatest number of games with an exact score prediction! To keep track of everyone's progress during the tournament, you can refer to the Leaderboard tab on our site. You can also see everyone else's picks once all predictions are locked and games for that particular phase have started.
